Aurora is a strange and wonderful town to light. It was founded in 1799 as a farming and cheese-making settlement, it still has a National Register historic district around the old town center, and you will still pass split-rail fence along Route 43. Then you turn into Barrington or Walden and you are looking at custom estates on golf-course frontage built in the last twenty-five years.
Twenty-five square miles, one zip code, two completely different lighting jobs.
The newer Aurora estate neighborhoods — Barrington, Walden, Hawthorn, the lakefront lots around Aurora Shores — are the kind of homes that need a real design, not a single line of bulbs. You have multiple intersecting gables, dormers stacked above dormers, bump-outs, turret roofs, stone-and-siding facades and peaks running well past thirty feet. Outlining that correctly takes planning, because a complicated roof lit badly just looks busy. We map every ridge, valley, gable and eave first, decide what carries the design and what would only add noise, then light it deliberately.
The second Aurora factor is distance from the road. Long curving driveways and heavily wooded frontage mean the house alone may not read from the street. We pull the display forward — wrapped trunks on the big hardwoods, lit shrub beds, walkway runs, columns and porch railings picked out, garland on the entry — so the whole property reads as one composition instead of a bright spot behind trees.
Around the town center and the surviving farmhouses the scale flips: modest, symmetrical, historic elevations where less is more. Clean rooflines, a wreath, lit garland at the door. Different house, different plan. We do not run the same design twice.
Everything is clipped. Nothing is nailed. Every strand hangs on plastic clips sized to your shingles and gutters. Nothing is nailed, screwed or stapled into fascia — ever.
You lease the lights — you never buy them. Light The Land owns them. Design, installation, mid-season service, takedown after the holidays and climate-controlled labeled storage between seasons are all included. Nothing ends up in your garage. Year-to-year, three-year and five-year agreements are available, and the longer agreements come with discounted rates and priority scheduling. If you ever decide not to renew, the lights simply come back to us.
Lifetime warranty on all parts. Anything that fails or wears out gets replaced — the only exceptions being damage from pets, misuse or accidents.
Free same-day estimate. We measure your roofline with satellite software, so you get a real number the same day you call. Nobody has to be home. A deposit and a signed agreement hold your date, and installations start around Halloween.
We are a small local crew out of Berea, now in our third season with more than 50 homes installed, and fully insured.
