The typical Avon build has multiple front-facing gables, a prominent two-story entry, a side-load or front-load garage with its own peak, dormers, and often a bay or bump-out with a separate little roof. That is a lot of architecture to work with, and outlined properly a house like that reads beautifully from the road.
The discipline is knowing what to leave dark. Light every ridge and valley on a complex roof and it stops looking designed and starts looking busy. We map the elevation first, pick the lines that define the silhouette, and let the rest go.
The second Avon factor is young landscaping. Subdivisions built in the last twenty years have trees that have not filled in yet, which cuts both ways.
